We’ve been wonderfully busy this spring and are flying into summer with many upcoming events on the calendar!
As of Late
In the past few months, we’ve played at the International Folk Dance session on Saturday night, played for Scottish dancing in Santa Fe, shared a show with the Adobe Brothers, hosted an evening of Contra Chestnuts (with Erik Erhardt calling and Bruce Thomson joining us on guitar), and had our first techno contra! It was a whirlwind, as Clara learned a whole new computer program to make that techno contra rock, but it was so worth it! It has been lovely seeing familiar faces and brand new friends at our latest events.
We have a lot of new repertoire (and instruments!) in the works for several upcoming gigs. These days if you’re at an International Folk Dance event with us, you might hear Clara on the Turkish G clarinet, Mirinisa on tenor guitar or doumbek, or both of us singing a beautiful tune from the Balkans.
Hitting the Road
The upcoming months are packed with exciting new adventures! We’re thrilled to be on staff at two camps/retreats this summer- FolkMADness in Socorro, NM (May 24-26th) and the Tarab Retreat in Colorado Springs, Colorado (September 6-8th). We’re also taking a couple of short trips out to our neighboring states to play concerts and dances! Catch us in Arizona at the end of June and Colorado in the middle of August. (See our events page for the latest updates!)
In the Land of Green Chile
But don’t worry, New Mexico friends, we’ve got plenty happening here too! We’re delighted to welcome our friends in House of Hamill, a Celtic folk rock duo from Philadelphia to the Parsons’ home for a house concert on May 31st! We’ll play a bit, but then let you enjoy their awesome music. Don’t forget to RSVP!
We’ll be running around the Albuquerque Folk Festival, as usual, but this year you can hear us on stage for an official performance! Pssst. We’ll be playing for the Scottish dance class too!
In July, we’ve got a house concert that’ll likely be packed with our usual smorgasbord of tunes from all over the world and we’re excited to play our first regular FolkMADS contra!
One more note…
It’s now been just over a year since our first gigs together. We can’t quite believe how many gigs we’ve had, how far we’ve traveled, and how many wonderful friends we’ve seen and made this year! We are looking forward to many, many more tunes, dances, laughs, and joy shared with you all in the near future.
Thank you all for your continued support! We appreciate you all very much!
